Design, tooling, manufacture, inspection

Metpress controls the whole chain in one place. That is why a bespoke part is commercially viable here at production volume, and why lead times are ours to shorten rather than a supplier's to explain.

Manufacturing processes

Modern facilities equipped with an extensive range of advanced production machinery, specialised equipment and precision tooling, capable of producing components and assemblies to demanding technical specifications and international quality standards.

Process 01

CNC laser cutting

Flat steel plate cut directly from the CAD model, which means a design change becomes a cut part without new tooling. Nesting is optimised so material yield stays high on long runs.

  • Input CAD geometry, direct from the drawing office
  • Output Cut blanks and finished flat parts
  • Suits Brackets, plates, gussets, prototype iterations

Process 02

CNC bending

Press brake forming with programmed backgauge positioning, so the thousandth part matches the first. Bend sequences are developed alongside the flat pattern rather than after it.

  • Input Laser cut blanks
  • Output Formed sections, channels and brackets
  • Suits Crossarms, outreach arms, mounting brackets
Process 03

Plasma cutting

Profile cutting of plate heavier than the laser is suited to, driven from the same CAD geometry, so one drawing office feeds both routes and thickness does not force a redesign.

Process 04

Fabrication

Punching, drilling, notching and processing, taking cut and formed components to the point where they are ready to press, weld or assemble.

Process 05

Pressing & stamping

Volume pressed and stamped parts on press tools designed, built and refurbished in our own toolroom, which is what makes a bespoke part viable at production quantity.

Process 06

Welding

Welding in purpose-built jigs so assemblies come out square and repeatable, the thousandth as well as the first. The jigs are made in our own toolroom.

  • Suits Structures, platforms, yokes, stays and struts

Engineering

The toolroom

A fully equipped in-house toolroom responsible for the design, manufacture, maintenance and refurbishment of production tooling. This is the capability most suppliers subcontract, and the reason our lead times and our tolerances are ours to control.

  • Maintains Tooling refurbishment through production life
  • Means A bespoke part does not wait on an outside toolmaker
Process 07

Assembly

Complete assemblies built, kitted and packed to your bill of materials, so what arrives on site is ready to install rather than ready to sort.

Process 08

Surface finishing

Finishing to the specification the environment demands, so a part installed on the coast and a part installed inland are not treated as the same problem.

Engineering

Design & development

Advanced CAD modelling, engineering analysis and rapid prototyping, supported by dedicated in-house testing facilities. Concept through to commercial production.

Quality & inspection

Metpress operates a comprehensive Quality Management System independently certified to the internationally recognised ISO 9001 standard. Quality is controlled at every stage, not inspected in at the end.
